Brooklyn-based band Dead Stars have won the attention of the blogosphere for a fuzzy, hook-heavy sound that bears a resemblance to Sonic Youth, Dinosaur, Jr., Nirvana, Pavement, and others from the grunge era. I can picture myself at 14-15 listening to the radio as a frantic station switcher – I’d change stations every few minutes…

The band’s latest album Slumber was released earlier this week through Old Flame Records and it continues the band’s reputation for crafting material that owes a great debt to the 1990s, as you’ll hear on “Summer Bummer,” the latest single off the new album.

The official video follows a depressed, down on his luck puppet – that is until he joins Dead Stars on tambourine and gets the attention he’s always felt he was looking for and needed. The video is absolutely adorable; and with the Mermaid Day Parade today, it seems fitting.
