Comprised of Rachel Gagliardi and Nicole Synder, the duo of Slutever recently located from Philadelphia to Los Angeles and much like countless others, they moved out west with the hopes of being famous. “Smother,” the first single off the duo’s forthcoming Almost Famous EP is a buzzing, power-chord based headbanger of a song that sounds as though it owes a debt to Bleach and In Utereo-era Nirvana, Hole, Liz Phair and 90s grunge-era alternative rock. But at the heart of the song, there’s a heartache – a teenage heartache that feels distant and yet familiar to me.
