Frankie Rose is quite an interesting figure in the New York scene, as she was an early member of Dum Dum Girls, Crystal Stilts and Vivian Girls and quitting each of them, just as they were blowing up to start various projects including various iterations of a solo career. Rose’s latest project has the New York-based singer/songwriter teaming up with frequent collaborator Drew Citron in a project they’ve named Beverly.
“Planet Birthday,” the third single off the band’s forthcoming Careers consists of a propulsive punk-rock bass, swirling feedback and other noise, buzzing guitars and with Rose’s seductive croon in a way that brings to mind Dum Dum Girls, Go Go Girls and others if they were covering the Jesus and Mary Chain but with a loose, boozy improvised feel.
