Graveface Records Roadshow feat. Stargazer Lilies and Casket Girls
Mercury Lounge
February 18 2014
At the tail end of last year, the Savannah, GA-based indie rock label, Graveface Records announced that several of their more prominent acts would be embarking on a North American tour – including the Casket Girls, Stargazer Lilies, Dreamend, Galway, Ireland’s Dott and others. One of the tour’s earliest stops was at the Mercury Lounge last Tuesday, featuring Stargazer Lilies and Casket Girls, two bands with very different sounds.
Playing in front of a screen which had projections behind them, the trio of Stargazer Lilies’ sound employed the use of layers upon layers of tightly controlled feedback with most of the material of their set slowly unfolding with an ethereal beauty – that is until their last song of their set which exploded into a torrent of towering noise. It was impressive
Casket Girls on the other hand had a sound that possessed elements of 60s and 70s pop with a haunted, ghostly air and a strangely demented sense of humor. At times, their sound was funky and danceable – at others, it was one of the strangest yet most compelling things i’ve seen in some time.
