If you’ve been following JOVM for the past few months, you might recall a post or two about the Los Angeles-based band Lady Low. The band is comprised of several long-time, grizzled vets, including founding member Jimmy Sweet (guitar, vocals), who was a member of the San Francisco, CA-based punk band Richmond Sluts and a touring member of Hot Hot Heat; Rachel Maxann (vocals, synth, bass), Eden Lee (vocals, drums), Kaitlin Wolfberg (violin) and Hannah Blumenfeld (violin). Interestingly, when Sweet started the band, he was interested in starting what he had dubbed a “romance rock” sound – as it combines an old school rock ‘n’ roll feel with the swooning Romantic passion. In some way, their sound manages to channel the legendary “Wall of Sound” that Phil Spector developed… 

Recently, the band released a swooning, gorgeously baroque cover of Buzzcocks’ “You Say You Don’t Love Me,” which retains the sad yet resignedly defiant tone of the original but somehow the Lady Low version possesses a haunting sense of regret and heartache just beneath the surface.
