If you’ve been frequenting JOVM over the past few months, you’ll likely be familiar with Lee Miles, a Louisville, KY-based alt country/folk-rock/blues-rock artist who records and performs under the moniker of Chief Ghoul. And as a result, Miles has developed a reputation for a sound that channels and owes a debt to the Delta blues – i.e., the blues of Lightnin’ Hopkins, Blind Willie Johnson, Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters (more particularly, his acoustic work) and John Lee Hooker – as his work is sparse, mostly self-accompanied and  concerns itself with prototypical blues themes.

“Wild West,” the latest and last single off of Miles’ forthcoming album, III was written as a sort of vague dream of living back in the days of the Wild West, while capturing the longing for a new start someplace else where there seems to be infinite possibilities. It’s a sentiment that’s as old as time itself, and is profoundly human.
