“I’m Alive” is the latest single from Los Angeles, CA-based eccentric and artist Conquistador. This track is largely inspired by the Arab Spring Movement – Conquistador was personally involved with Free Iran Organization in Sweden at the height of the Green Movement, which demanded the removal of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Another inspiration was the Zazou Movement during World War II, a movement that used style as a form of transgression – the Zazous were known for wearing a yellow star marked with Zazou, as a mockery of the degredation of Jews in Jewish ghettos across Nazi-controlled Europe.
“I’m Alive” reminds me quite a bit of a slicker bit of 80s inspired electro pop – Yaz, New Order and the like are probably fair comparisons. It’s got a catchy, infectious hook too.
