In a previous post, I discussed the Brooklyn-based Afro-Dub act, Super Hi-Fi, and I mentioned the Josh Roseman Unit, and the reason why is pretty simple – the Josh Roseman Unit is one of the few jazz bands I can think of which is lead by a trombonist. Their Treats for the Nightwalker managed to mesh jazz, hip hop and dub in a way that’s organic and inventive. One of my favorite songs off that album is their rendition of Burt Bacharach’s “Long Day, Short Night,” as performed by the Shirelles

JRU turn what was a roughly 2:30 pop song into a spaced out and atmospheric reggae dub jam – and in order to do so they slow the melody down but you can still recognize it if you pay attention.
