It’s been about 14 years since Davell Crawford has released a proper, full-length album, and My Gift to You, which Basin Street Records released today marks a couple of interesting events – Crawford’s first release with the legendary New Orleans-based jazz label; the album also serves as a love letter, and a statement of allegiance to his birthplace and home; and it has him collaborating with the likes of Dr. John, Walter “Wolfman” WashingtonBig Freedia, Donald Harrison, Jr. and others.

To celebrate the release of the album, Crawford released this live, solo acoustic version of “Junco Partner Cud’in Joe, an old blues song, dedicated to a friend. I think that Crawford’s rendition of the song still manages to have a somewhat playful wit but it doesn’t overshadow the dark undertones of the song.
