Like countless other bands across New York, the members of Drowners met while hanging out in bars downtown — guitarist and vocalist Matt Hitt passed some demos to guitarist Jack Ridley and bassist Erik Snyder and the the three formed a band. Drummer, Lakis Pavlou joined a short time later. With the release of the Just Us Girls EP earlier this year, the band gained quite a bit of attention from across the blogosphere — and it shouldn’t be terribly surprising because their sound bears an uncanny resemblance to the Smiths.
In fact, the first single off the band’s forthcoming full-length self-titled debut, “Luv, Hold Me Down” is a swooning song that should further cement the band’s reputation for being hopeless romantics. The official video, which was recently released, has captures the band while on tour – so yeah, you have some footage of the band performing but you also have footage of the band goofing off and it’s kind of endearing.
