Now, if you’ve been frequenting this site over the past couple of months you may recall that the folks at Speak Into My Good Eye (SIMGE) in partnership with Ridgewood, Queens-based music venue The Footlight have begun to host a carefully curated live showcase in which SIGME along with three other NYC Metropolitan area-based bloggers/editors featured artists and bands that each blogger/editor has championed — and then each blogger.editor had a short DJ set to introduce the artist they’ve championed. I took part in the first of what I hope will be a continuing series and stopped by to catch Blox Cord 2 earlier this month featuring Spowder, A Deer A Horse, Mean Siders and Beechwood. Check out some photos from the show below.

The aforementioned Spowder is a Morristown, NJ-based trio, who specializes in what they dubbed swamp rock.

Comprised of Rebecca Satellite (vocals, guitar), Angela Philips (bass, vocals) and Dylan Teggart (drums), A Deer A Horse is an indie rock trio who cites Bowie, X, T-Rex, Smog, The National, Silver Jews, Destroyer, Adam and the Ants, Brian Eno, Iggy Pop, Antony and the Johnsons, Tom Waits, Talking Heads, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Queens of the Stone Age, Pixies, Portishead, Blondie and a list of others as influences — although their sound struck me as being much more prog rock leaning.
