Born Lawrence “Kris” Parker, The Bronx, NY-born and-based emcee and producer, best known as KRS One is arguably one of the most influential artists of hip-hop ashe has recorded some of the genre’s seminal and most beloved albums albums and singles, both as a member of Boogie Down Productions with DJ Scott LaRock, DJ D-Nice and Miss Melody, including Criminal Minded and By Any Means Necessary, Stop the Violence Movement’s “Self Destruction” and as a solo artist with The Return of the Boom Bap among others. Now, more than enough ink has been spilled throughout his musical career; but I caught the legendary emcee play an inspired but truncated set at SummerStage over in Red Hook, Brooklyn’s Coffey Park with legendary hip-hop radio personality, producer and DJ Chuck Chillout.
