Live Concert Photography: Psymon Spine at Silk City Diner 3/22/24
As I mentioned in a couple of previous posts, I was in Philadelphia last weekend for the first session of the Asian Art Initiative’s Sound Type Music Festival and Music Writers Workshop. Because of the nature of the trip down, it had felt as though it were somehow more of a whirlwind experience than before.
I got in Friday afternoon and checked into my hotel. I text my mom and all the other important people that I got in okay — as I always do. While unpacking my toiletries, I realized I forgot deodorant. Once, I was finished with that annoying but necessary errand, I had to get myself together for Sound Type’s first public event: an artist talk featuring the first weekend’s headliner Victoria Shen.
We then rushed off to a wonderful group dinner at E-Mei in Chinatown. Then I had to rush off to catch JOVM mainstays Psymon Spine at Silk City Diner. I didn’t want to look like I was frantically looking at my watch — when a part of me was. And the Lyft to the venue just seemed to take too long. Sadly, I wound up only catching half of Psymon Spine’s set.
Sadly, I wound up only catching about half their set. But the material I caught from the set, which seemed to be off their latest album, was played with a road-friendly aplomb and crowd — which also seemed extremely young — was dancing (or at least attempting to dance) through the set. As always some photos are below.
