Summer Thunder is a free weekly summer showcase, presented by Academy Records and the folks at Union Pool that features up-and-coming nationally and internationally touring acts and DJs at the Williamsburg hotspot and music venue’s back patio.

Throughout the course of the annual showcase’s run, Union Pool and Academy Records have regularly hosted the legendary avant-garde jazz outfit, Sun Ra Arkestra, the New York-based boogaloo, Latin soul and salsa composer, songwriter and pianist Joe Bataan, and an eclectic array of artists across a wide span of genres and styles.

Now, if you’ve been frequenting this site over the past month or so, you might recall that I’ve attended a handful of Summer Thunder shows this summer, including June McDoom with Kate Davis, Xylouris White with Ismaily, Jones and Sawyer, and William Tyler and The Impossible Truth with Garcia Peoples

I also caught the last Summer Thunder of the season, Philadelphia-based punks Poison Ruïn with Seattle-based punks Success. Check out some photos from a hot afternoon of even hotter riffs below.
