With the release of their first two albums, 2011′s self-titled debut and 2013′s Glow and Behold, the London-based quartet Yuck quickly became international blogosphere sensations, thanks in part to a sound that many of my colleagues have compared to Dinosaur, Jr., Pavement, and several other Alternative Rock acts from the 90s. Certainly, as my colleague Natalie Hamingson has noted, the sound of the 90s have come back big time, and in some way it awakens two competing sensations within me – nostalgia and the growing feeling that I’m getting old. (Eventually, it will happen to all of us.)
The quartet is working on their third full-length effort slated for an early 2016 release but in the meantime, they released a brand new single, “Hold Me Closer,” which will likely further cement the band’s reputation for a sound that channels 90s Alt Rock – in this case this particular song possesses some of the swooning Romanticism that drew me to Smashing Pumpkins.
The band also announced a number of Stateside tour dates, including August 6 at River Rocks, Pier 84.
