News/Announcements: United Sounds NYC Festival Announces Inaugural Lineup

I’ve been covering music in the city for close to 20 years. And I might be one of the few old heads, who miss the craziness of fall, multi-day, multi-venue festivals like CMJ and New Music Seminar (which coincidentally would take place within a week or so of one another). The absence of these once-iconic events underscores a glaring need for a fresh, inclusive, annual gathering — an event where musicians can boldly step into the spotlight, present their work to industry tastemakers, eager music fans looking for the next new thing and fellow artists alike.

The co-founders of United Sounds — Diane Perini, Shay Vishawadia and Dipesh Sinha — have announced the inaugural United Sounds NYC Festival. Created to fill the significant gap for independent and emerging music in New York’s fall calendar, the co-founders of United Sounds hope to reignite the spirit of community within NYC’s indie music scene. United Sounds NYC Festival is the first official event produced by United Sounds.”We are too excited to wait until 2025 to start launching the events, festivals and concerts that we are envisioning,” Shay Vishawadia says. “We see the festival as a plant-our-flag moment and we are looking forward to expanding United Sounds not only as the annual festival, but also producing a full calendar of events in NYC and additional markets.”

The festival, which will take place Friday, October, 25, 2024 and Saturday, October 26, 2024 at Red Hook, Brooklyn’s Pioneer Works will feature performances by Blonde Redhead, The Dismemberment Plan, Sunflower Bean, Les Savy Fav, Model/Actriz, Man Man, Monobloc and Peel Dream Magazine with additional artists, DJs, neighborhood events and more to be announced in the upcoming weeks.

United Sounds NYC Festival will also be teaming up with WFUV Public Radio 90. 7FM and WFUV.org as the festival’s official media sponsor.

In keeping with staunchly independent spirit, tickets for United Sounds NYC Festival will be affordable and well-priced: Single day tickets will be $50 and two-day passes will be $75. Passes will be available for purchase on Friday, September 6, 2024 at 10:00AM ET. You can visit instagram.com/unitedsounds_nyc for more info, including the ticketing link.

“We wanted to start an annual music festival in New York City during the fall season, in the spirit of great indie-focused events of the past like CMJ,” United Sounds NYC Festival’s talented booker Piane Perini. who also programmed Coney Island’s Siren Music Festival says. “Our goal is to bring celebrated independent artists and music fans together for a fun weekend in a great setting. We were drawn to Red Hook to launch the event because it has such a welcoming seaside community vibe, that feels like you’re out of the city, yet it’s right there across the water from lower Manhattan.”
