Originally named Monster when they were formed in 2002, the Sierra Madre, CA-based trio recently changed their name to White Dove, and with the change of name, there was a change in approach (which, in turn, brings about a change in sound). With the release of the band’s The Hoss, The Candle’s first single, “Cold Mountain" lead singer Alex Johnstone’s ethereal voice is front and center of a sound that has the slight twanginess of country/Americana – but with an eerie, atmospheric murkiness which is reminiscent of Mazzy Star.
