Photography: Philadelphia Chinese Lantern Festival, Franklin Square 7/30/22

Last weekend, I went down to Philly for a brief weekend stop, which included covering Kiwi Jr. with Weird Nightmare and Gladie at Johnny Brenda’s. I got down Saturday afternoon and it was a very busy day with a number of stops. including a stop at Franklin Square for Philly’s annual Chinese Lantern Festival.

The festival creates a unique opportunity to travel through 2000 years of lantern making — with a modern twist: Each lantern is hand-crafted with modern materials and eco-friendly colored LED light bulbs. And they feature moving parts to create larger-than-life imaginative displays.

This year’s theme was “Beautiful Life” and featured lanterns inspired by nature. The vibrant lanterns depict the four seasons and animals in their native environments, including the Amazon, China, and more.

Honestly, it was a lovely evening full of some gorgeous Instagram-worthy sights.
