Photography: Ramones Mural, Forest Hills LIRR Station, 71st Avenue/Continental Avenue, Forest Hills, Queens, NYC 7/24/25
Things look a bit different around here. There’s a reason for that: Regular freelance work dried up for me last July. Not much has gone on with full-time work, or anything else. Whatever meager earnings and savings I had evaporated quickly. So when it came to a number of subscriptions, including WordPress, I couldn’t afford to renew them — and now here we are. A weird placeholder and a weird layout that I don’t particularly like. I’m trying to keep the show running as best as I can until things get better. But I have to admit that I’ve been feeling extremely discouraged. Sigh. If anyone has leads to work — freelance, part-time, contracted, project and/or full-time — that would be much appreciated.
Let’s get back to it, right?
The members of the Ramones grew up not too far from where I grew up. As a teenager, I wandered around many of the same streets that they when they were my age.
At the Forest Hills LIRR Station, a few blocks away from Forest Hills Stadium, there’s a Ramones mural that as you can see, is in desperate need to repair. Regardless, the neighborhood proudly reminds you that those legends grew up right here.
