St. Pat’s For All Parade was founded by Brendan Fay, a gay Irish immigrant, in response to the exclusion of LGBQT+ groups like Irish Lesbian and Gay Organization from the New York City St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Manhattan. The first St. Pat’s For All took place back in 2000 in the neighborhoods of Sunnyside and Woodside Queens, which traditionally have been home to Irish immigrants.
Fay’s objective was to celebrate New York City’s diversity, guided by the motto “Cherishing All the Children of the Nation Equally,” which is derived from the Proclamation of the Irish Republic during the 1916 Easter Rising.
The 25th Edition of the St. Pat’s For All Parade took place earlier this month on a frigid early March afternoon. Check out some photos from a parade that reminds attendees and others that diversity and immigration are our strengths — and make us much more interesting.
