Photography: The Bushwick Collective Block Party 6/4/22
Yesterday, I went to The Bushwick Collective’s Block Party, a celebration of graffiti and hip-hop: There was a bunch of new artwork in the neighborhood and the afternoon features a busy day of music that included the legendary KRS One headlining, and Statik Selektah and DJ Evil Dee on spinning on the decks.
I wound up catching K.R.S. One’s set while on my friend’s aunt’s stoop while drinking a beer I bought at the bar next door. (I went very light: I just had my Canon 6D Mark II. I didn’t bring my Canon 77D. I didn’t have my 70mm-200mm lens. And I was too far to take anything worthwhile of K.R.S. One anyway. Sorry y’all.) But it was a great day and of course, I took photos of the artwork, food and some of the people.
Caption: Can you get any more old-school New York than double dutch in the street?
Caption: This was the weirdest and funniest thing I saw all afternoon. It didn’t make a ton of sense either. But hey, if that’s true, cool, right?
Caption: 2 Girls and a Cook Shop Jamaican Jerk Chicken Tacos. Goodness, those tacos were delicious. I’ll have to get more of them at some point. And it felt good to support sisters doing their thing out there.
Caption: Ms. Holly’s Smokehouse‘s Smoked Brisket Sandwich. I love brisket and just haven’t had it in a while. Seriously, if I could eat brisket three times a day, I would, because brisket is that good. I was dancing in the street while eating — but I can be ridiculous.
