Preview: My Name Is You at Rockwood Music Hall

The duo of My Name Is You met while students in Southern California. After graduation, Brandon went on to tour and record with Greg Laswell, Joshua Radin, Ingrid Michaelson, Tristan Prettyman and others, Anne, moved to Kenya, where she had taught music in a village school and worked in an orphanage. A few years later, Brandon and Anne met up again in Scotland – Brandon was touring and Anne had recently relocated to Scotland. Both had been writing songs, and they decided that they should collaborate on a project and the result was My Name Is You’s debut self-titled debut.

The band will be touring the US along with Joshua Radin but before that, they’re making a stop at Rockwood Music Hall tonight. Singles like “We’re Alive” have a deceptively simple, hushed and seemingly effortless beauty. “Everything That” punctuated with hand claps and ebullient bursts of horns is a simply an adorable, sweet and utterly sincere love song. You’ll hopefully hear these songs and others tonight in a super intimate setting, which will make the songs more beguiling.
