Produced by Jean-Philip Grobler, the creative force behind St. Lucia, “Wings” is the first single off the Brooklyn-based indie electro pop and blogosphere sensation Haerts’ debut EP, Hemiplegia. Naturally, the track bears elements of Grobler’s winningly slick production style – we’re talking about a sound that manages to be airy (and soaring) but possesses subtly dense layers, an anthemically and infectious hook,an incredibly funky bass line and plaintive, earnest vocals from Nini Fabi. In some way, the track sounds as though it could easily be on the 80s drama like St. Elmo’s Fire while never losing it’s directness and intimacy.
The official video is shot using what appears to be Instagram filters meant to replicate what grainy Super 8 film would look like, and captures the band in the studio recording the song, on tour, and just hanging out. It’s a rather intimate portrait of a young, up-and-coming band.
