Pull My Hair Back, is the debut effort by the Hamilton, ON-based artists Jessy Lanza. Released back in September, the album has been critically applauded since it dropped – including the likes of Resident Advisor and XLR8R, who both praised Lanza’s sound, which manages to mesh both R&B and electronica in a way that may remind some listeners of Rush Midnight and his labelmates at Cascine Records. In other words, it sounds  influenced by the synth heavy R&B of the 80s – but more ethereal.

The folks at Yours Truly invited Lanza to perform “Strange Emotion,” a song that she says is inspired by the isolation of living in Hamilton, in the brief interview that precedes the actual performance.
