Released a few months ago, Bootblacks‘ Narrowed EP was initially released as a limited release cassette tape through Modern Tapes – and it  quickly sold out. It was followed by the vinyl release of the album through Chicago IL-based Rococo Records (the label home of acts such as Les Savy Favthe Feeling of Love and others).

The Narrowed EP is the follow up to their 2012 self-titeld release, and as you can immediately tell the band is heavily influenced by Echo and the BunnymenJoy DivisionSimple Minds and others, including Interpol; however, the new material reflects pronounced growth — the hooks are tighter, and there’s a greater use of synths. Whereas their full-length had more of a punk feel and energy, the EP has an stark, chilly, deeply anxious feel that’s difficult to shake, and displays much more of a Manchester, UK sound for the indie rock set.

“Instincts” is the latest single and video from the Narrowed EPThe video is shot in a gorgeous, artistic black and white, which emphasizes smoky, hidden shadows while the song is reminiscent of Joy Division – up until the Heaven Up Here-like bridge and coda.
