Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings are not only at the forefront of the soul revivalist movement, and the act that put Daptone Records on the international stage as the primary purveyor of all things contemporary soul and funk, they’re also one of the better live acts around. Although diminutive, Sharon Jones is a larger-than-life dynamo, possessing boundless optimism and a smile that’s absolutely infectious. And the Dap Kings are probably one of the country’s best soul groups.

The band’s forthcoming effort, Give The People What They Want was originally slated for release earlier this year and the band was scheduled to go on a lengthy tour to support their new effort when the news came out that Sharon Jones was diagnosed with cancer. Naturally, the tour and even the release of the album were posted – indefinitely. After getting a rather invasive surgery and an aggressive chemotherapy routine, Jones has received a clean bill of health, kicking cancer’s ass with a smile and with charm.

Give The People What They Want will finally see a January 14th release, much to delight of her fans, and to fans of Daptone Records. The second single off the album, “Ain’t No Chimneys in the Projects,” is perfectly suited for this time of year, as it’s a Christmas song, which asks a rather pertinent question for any apartment dweller, especially those in the projects: how would Santa deliver gifts, if there ain’t no chimneys? A fair question, indeed.

Accompanying an adorable but funky song is an equally adorable animated video which portrays Sharon Jones as a little girl, desperately trying to string Christmas lights on her project roof.

You can catch the band on tour, and it starts off with a February 6th homecoming show at the Beacon Theatre; followed by stops in Washington, DCDurham, NCAsheville, NCAtlanta, GACharleston, SCOrlando, FL and countless other locales before ending in Detroit, MI on April 15th.
