Stephen “Thundercat” Bruner is the latest in a long run of funky bass playing virtuosos, and earlier this year, he released his latest effort, Apocalypse, which was produced by Flying Lotus to critical praise as it offers listeners a bit of spaced out funk with elements of soul, electronica, pop, prog rock, and of course, funk. “Oh Sheit, It’s X” is one of a batch of incredibly funky singles that bear a resemblance to the great Bootsy Collins, Rick James and even a more contemporary artist, Dam Funk.
Not only does the track shimmer, and reveal Flying Lotus as a producer you should be aware of, the track is sexy as hell.
Look out for this dude, as not only did he make a recent appearance playing with the Roots on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, he’ll be embarking on a North American tour starting November 13 in San Francisco, CA with stops in Portland, OR; Vancouver, BC; Denver, CO; Chicago, IL; Toronto, ON; Montreal, QC; the Music Hall of Williamsburg on November 25th; Boston, MA; Washington, DC; and Los Angeles, CA.
