Last week, Steven A. Clark performed at a private, RSVP-only show at the Wired Store, as part of the Music Showcase of 2012. Clark will begin touring to support his excellent sophomore release, Fornication Under Consent of the King, and the show in many ways served as introduction of an up-and-coming act who has been praised by CMJ, Spin Magazine and others, to an audience that was in many ways unfamiliar with him and his latest album. Clark wound up playing two half hour sets and I think he impressed a Wired Store crowd who was largely unfamiliar with him and his work – it helped that early in his first set, he used samples from A Tribe Called Quest’s “Bonita Applebaum,” and others as extended bridges or playful expansions of his material.
I was there, so check out the photographic evidence below.
Free Guinness Black Lager was a definite plus to the night.
