Sylvan Esso is a unique collaboration between Ameila Meath of folk group Mountain Man and Nick Sanborn, the bassist in Megafaun. Sanborn uses synths and other electronics to create pulsating grooves for Heath’s gorgeous and coquettish voice. Interestingly, her voice reminds me a little bit of Kalma Traver of Rubblebucket.

The duo recently released a 12 inch single, “Hey Mami/Play It Right” which is a rare double A side single, which also features an accapella and instrumental version of each song. “Play It Right” has Meath employing delay pedals so that she actually harmonizes with her sense, along with propulsive bass, it adds an earthiness to a background of ethereal, swirling electronics and metallic (seemingly industrial) clanking and banging.

Sylvan Esso is currently on the tour throughout November and it’ll include stops in Minneapolis, MN; Chicago, IL; Washington, DC; the Bowery Ballroom on November 20th; Philadelphia, PA; and Boston, MA.
