New Video: Plumes Shares Broodingly Cinematic “Jeanne’s Visions”

Veronica Charnley is an acclaimed Montréal-born Paris-based singer/songwriter and guitarist, who is best known as the creative mastermind behind Plumes, her solo recording project that sees her drawing from contemporary pop and classical music.

Charnley’s fourth Plumes album, Many Moons Away is slated for a Friday release. The soon-to-be released album’s second and latest single “Jeanne’s Visions” is a broodingly cinematic track featuring strummed and plucked guitar, a soaring string arrangement paired with the Montréal-born, Paris-based artist’s ethereal delivery. While sonically nodding at Dark Side of the Moon-era Pink Floyd and country, the song is inspired by the story of Joan of Arc, who one afternoon while in her garden, first perceived voices, intertwined with church bells, guiding her to her calling, Charnley explains. She adds that “the arrangement uses harmonics in the guitar and viola, giving that otherworldly sound and the rhythm in the guitar during the verses is reminiscent of Jeanne’s trotting horse as she heads for battle.”

The accompanying video for “Jeanne’s Visions” features the acclaimed artist in a garden on a sun-dappled day, much like one Joan of Arc had her vision.

New Video: Plumes Shares a Gorgeous Visual and Single

Veronica Charnley is an acclaimed Montreal-born Paris-based singer/songwriter and guitarist, who is best known as the creative mastermind behind Plumes, a solo recording project that draws from contemporary pop and classical music techniques through critically applauded albums, including her most recent effort, 2019’s Oh Orwell.

Charnley’s latest Plumes single, the breathtakingly beautiful and mournful “When I Walk In” features Charnley’s achingly plaintive and yearning vocals accompanied by an expressive, classical-leaning arrangement inspired by French composer Erik Satie that features equally gorgeous piano by Parisian pianist Manuel Peskine and expressive viola by Canadian violist Jennifer Thiessen.

Directed by Canadian filmmaker Pixie Cram, the equally mournful and cinematic visual for “When I Walk In” features some gorgeous images of the Grand Canyon and its environs split with footage of Charnley on the phone. The visual has a nostalgic weight to it, as it captures fleeting moments of profound beauty and loneliness.

New Video: Plumes Releases an Earthy and Sensual Visual for “Golden Gourmande”

Veronica Charnley is an acclaimed Montreal-born Paris-based singer/songwriter and guitarist, and the creative mastermind behind Plumes, a solo recording project that draws from contemporary pop and classical music techniques. And while most of her work is centered around her own original lyrics, she has also set poems by Emily Dickinson, Goethe and Marina Tsvetaeva to music.

\Her third album Oh Orwell was released earlier this year — and the long awaited album finds Charnley reinventing the project after her breakup with romantic partner and colllaborator, multi-instrumentalist and arranger, Goef Holbrook. The album’s latest single “Golden Gourmande” is centered around a hauntingly sparse arrangement: Charnley’s gorgeous and expressive vocals, shimmering, strummed guitar and gently droning feedback. The end result is a song that simultaneously manages to evoke the sensation of being roused from a pleasant dream — and savoring it deeply with a euphoric sigh. “‘Golden Gourmande’ is a song about returning to love after having almost lost it and savoring it like a creme brulee,” Charnley explains.

Directed by Pixie Cram, the recently released video for “Golden Gourmande” is an earthy and sensual visual that splits between someone foraging for mushrooms, plucking them from the forests and the Montreal-born, Paris-based singer/songwriter performing the song in an intimate studio.
