The acclaimed, French singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Sebastien Tellier’s forthcoming album Confection will see a November 8th release Stateside through Parisian label, Record Makers. The recording sessions for the album reunited Tellier with the backing band of his cult status album La Ritournelle – and it’s a pretty fucking impressive backing band that includes: Tony Allen on drums (yes, the Tony Allen that played with Fela);Rob Coudert of Phoenix on keys; Emmanuel d’Orlando with string arrangements; and the album was mixed by Phillipe Zdar, known for his work with Phoenix, Cat Power, the Beastie Boys and others… .
Although each individual song showcases several romantic themes, the album was conceived and written in a similar fashion to that of a motion picture score – and much like a motion picture score, the songs are meant to evoke specific emotions, and allows the listener to create fantasized images.
“L’amour naissant” one of the first singles off the new album is an absolutely gorgeous track, which owes a debt to both jazz and classical music. And it’s a plaintive, swooning love song that captures the heady and passionate rush of young love.
