The Chills are considered a legendary act in their native New Zealand, and are something of a cult favorite here in the States. And since the original lineup’s split up in 1993, the band has been sporadically active; however, October 14th will mark the band’s return as Fire Records will be releasing a 3 LP live album titled Something Beautiful. Recoded from a private, live New Year’s Eve show, the album is a career spanning retrospective, and marks the official recorded output of the lineup that frontperson Martin Phillips formed 5 years ago.

The first single from Something Beautiful, “Night of Chill Blue” is a shimmering, moody track that’s bears a resemblance to “Silver” off Echo and the Bunnymen’s gorgeous Ocean Rain, thanks in part to the string section.
