The Deltahorse is probably one of the more interesting indie rock projects I’ve heard of in recent memory as vocalist TJ Eckleberg is based in Sydney, Australia; guitarist Sash is based in Berlin, Germany; and Dana Colley, the former saxophonist of Morphine is based in Boston, MA. Sonically, the trio’s sound has been compared to the work of Beck. David Bowie and others – and after listening to “Hey Yuri,” the first single off their forthcoming self-titled EP you can see why: Eckleberg delivers wry lyrics as though it were spoken word poetry, and he’s backed by a sound that’s sleazy and bluesy – all while emphasizing his lyrics and an overall mood to the material.
