The laws that govern the conservation of energy and matter can be cruel, after all, everyone we all know has died, will die or is technically dying. And those very laws can often be ironic – the young can often have terribly tragic, heartbreaking deaths. Interestingly, the Luyas’ latest effort, Animator is heavily influenced by death. Before the band was set to enter the studio to record new material, they got a distressing phone call – a dear friend had tragically (and suddenly) died.
“Montuno,” is the album’s longest song as it clocks in at 8 minutes, and it’s written with three distinct parts with each representing the three segments of life – birth, the awareness of death, and death itself. The video which has an intensely primal feel, captures the haunting sadness and beauty of the song in a compelling way.
