Throwback: R.I.P. Eddie Van Halen

My editorial plans for the day changed when I learned that Eddie Van Halen died after a lengthy bout with cancer. There are only a handful of truly original guitarists — guitarists, who transform what can be done with the instrument and how it sounds: Robert Johnson, Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, B.B. King and Eddie Van Halen are on that list. No one has sounded like Eddie Van Halen before — and no one ever will. We love you, Eddie. And we’re going to miss you so very much.
