Vex Ruffin has developed a reputation for creating music and a sound that can be described as hypnotic, and icily minimalist but underneath the surface, it’s a bit anxious and uncertain as he merges brooding, anxious synths, fuzzy guitar chords and a propulsive, churning sense of rhythm. There’s frequently a sense of somewhat unresolved tension – as you’ll hear on “Prime Of Our Lives,” the latest single off his forthcoming self-titled full-length debut, there’s a sense that the narrator of the song is saying it sarcastically as though he’s more than aware of the fact that he has been wasting his life not doing much and settling to be around boring, monotonous people.
