With the first quarter of the year in the books, I can tell you that it’s been a big year for up-and-coming female pop artists as the blogosphere as blown up over the work of Chelsea Lankes, Pheobe Ryan, CAPPA and others. 18 year-old Warwickshire-based artist Keyes will likely be added to that list with the release of her debut single “Veins.” The track features Keyes’ wiser-than-her-actual age and effortlessly soulful vocals paired with a sparse and subtly ominous and brooding backing track of swirling synths, piano, and propulsive drum programming. And like a lot of finely crafted pop, the song has an infectiously catchy hook that you can imagine kids shouting along to lustily in a club.
