Although based in Los Angeles, the quintet of Line and Circle can trace their origins to when founding members Brian J. Cohen (vocals and guitar) and Brian Egan (keyboards) met in the Midwest and bounded over their shared birthplace of Ohio. Eric Neujahr (guitar), Nick Cisik (drums) and Jon Engelhard (bass) were enlisted to flesh out the band’s overall sound – a sound that has been compared to early R.E.M. and others.
After releasing two critically praised singles, the quintet of Line and Circle returned from a West Coast tour with new material and went into the studio to record their new songs with Lewis Pesacov, who had produced their first singles. Recorded live to tape in their hometown and mixed in Philadelphia, the end result is the band’s soon-to-be released self-titled EP.
The EP’s first single “Wounded Desire” will further cement the band’s reputation for a sound that bears an uncanny resemblance to Murmur, Eponymous and Document-era R.E.M. In other words jangling and chiming guitar rock paired with Cohen’s rich vocals. If you close your eyes, you can imagine this stuff being released back in 1984…
