As a blogger and as a fan, one of my favorite labels has been Stones Throw Records as they’ve consistently put out some of the most forward-thinking and challenging artists out there, as they’re the label home to the likes of Homeboy Sandman, Jonwayne, Dam-Funk, Myron and E and the Soul Investigators, and countless others, as well as one of the strangest artists in recent memory – Quasimoto.
Madlib and Quasimoto have been linked together for quite some time; however, no one has actually seen Quasimoto. But as the story goes, Madlib and Quasimoto had been working on material together without the intention of ever releasing it to the public – that is until Stones Throw Records founder Peanut Butter Wolf got a hand of it, and begged Quasimoto to sign with the label – with Quasimoto vowing to never reveal his name. Yeah, seriously.
Now Stones Throw Records will be releasing the Talkin’ Shit 45. and although it includes some of the most interesting album artwork I’ve ever seen, it’s also comprised of two of the strangest hip hop tracks you’ll ever hear – including “Planned Attack” which consists of some deft and playful use of samples, some adept scratching and an emcee spitting lyrics with an inventive sense of wordplay.
