As a  DJ, Scott Melker has shared stages with the likes of DJs and acts like DJ Jazzy Jeff, DJ AM, Public Enemy, Slick Rick, Dougie Fresh, Kanye West, the Wu Tang Clan.Q-Tip, Ne-Yo, T.I. and a list of others — thanks to the fact that as a DJ he has developed a reputation for having wide ranging, crowd pleasing tastes and a skills on the 1s and 2s. Under the moniker of the Melker Project, Melker has released four EPs focusing on a mashing up the work of a specific artist — released in November his Ballin’ Oats EP, which mashed up the work of Hall and Oates was critically praised. Trill Collins which was recently released was not only the follow up to Ballin’ Oates, it was Melker’s love letter to Phil Collins (who had a period of a couple of years where he was like the hottest shit in pop music). 

The incredibly prolific Melker has followed his previous projects with Red Hot Trilli Peppers, an EP where he mashes up the Red Hot Chili Peppers with a variety of other artists. The first single, “Bone Thug ‘N’ Chili Peppers (Otherside)” deftly and mind-blowingly mashes Bone Thugs ‘N’ Harmony’s “Thuggish Ruggish Bone” with the Chili Peppers “Otherside.” But unlike the work on the Trill Collins EP where the material sounds recognizable, this mash up is a total reworking of both songs – and it’s done in a way that’s a sonic marvel.
