Australian singer/songwriter Emma Louise is something of a wunderkind – at 16 she won two Q Awards for her songwriting. After high school, she moved from Cairn to Brisbane to further her music career and the result was her debut EP, Full Hearts and Empty Rooms which had a radio hit, “Jungle” in her native Australia. The song is on iTunes charts in ten different countries, and some of her music has appeared on a couple of shows Stateside – namely ABC‘s Grey’s Anatomy, and MTV’Awkward. “Boy.” is her first Stateside single, released in anticipation of her CMJ Festival sets at the Frenchkiss Records Showcase set at Piano’s on October 17th, the Tell All Your Friends PR Showcase also on the 17th, the Paradigm Showcase at the Mercury Lounge on October 19th, the Aussie Day BBQ at the Delancey on October 20th and the Rdio Day Party at Union Pool. So for any of you going to CMJ, she may be worth catching …

What I love about this particular song is that Emma Louise has the sort of voice that conveys aching loneliness and longing, and that there’s quite a bit of novelistic detail – you can picture the boy of her song in a cloud of his own cigarette smoke while talking to the narrator.
