British punk band Art Brut are celebrating their 10th anniversary with the release of Top of the Pops, a best of compilation which includes classic singles, B-sides, live recordings and covers. “Arizona Bay” is the first released single from the compilation and it’s a jaunty track in which frontman Eddie Argos shouts/sings lyrics that describe the pure, unadulterated terror of being in the middle of a natural disaster; the insignificant smallness in the fact of the forces of nature; the strange sense of exhilaration of being in a natural disaster – and of surviving it; and most importantly, the irony at the heart of the song – is that the natural disaster described in the song is a mild one at best.
