Brooklyn-based quintet Heaven’s Gate is one of a few bands who have named themselves after the strange and suicidal religious cult; but where they apparently differ is that this incarnation managed to use the grammatically correct version of the name with the possessive apostrophe.

Interestingly, Heaven’s Gate formed after the demise of dream pop act Sweet Bulbs and their sound, as you’ll hear on “Screams,” the latest single off Transmuting, manages to sound a bit like shoegaze with gentle and very subtle layers of electronics, and feedback but much harder. It’s the sort of shoegaze that you want to mosh to, and it’s pretty cool.

The band has two upcoming NYC area shows – September 14th at the Music Hall of Williamsburg opening for Screaming Females and others; and September 28th for their record release show at 285 Kent in Williamsburg.
