Ennui, the brainchild of Pittsburgh, PA-based musician and producer Jim Doutrich has existed in variety of incarnations since 2004; however, their forthcoming album Telepathic Beat slated for a September 23 release through Mush Records may well be a rebirth for the project, as it continues Doutrich’s reputation for crafting infectious synth pop — the sort of synth pop that sounds as though it could have been released in 1985, thanks in part to tightly syncopated drum programming, shimmering synths, earnest vocals sung with a crooned falsetto and an incredibly tight hooks as you’ve heard on the album’s first single “Circles” and on it’s latest single “Summer of Love.” In particular Summer of Love manages to be reminiscent of a breezier version of Depeche Mode, the Thompson Twins and others.
