If you haven’t been able to tell, I’m the sort of blogger and music fan with exceedingly eclectic tastes. And with that in mind, I had been seeking out some really good dub and reggae because sadly, I haven’t written much about contemporary dub and reggae beyond the one or two shows I’ve covered at Brooklyn Bowl. So when I discovered the folks at Boom One Records, I was pretty thrilled …
Interestingly, there’s quite a dub scene in Japan – in fact, there have been a number of folks who have travelled to Kingston and other places in Jamaica to totally immerse themselves in dub culture. And there have been a couple of Japanese sound systems who have competed against Jamaican crews at their own game. Based in Japan, the Riverside Rockers are a dub act with members hailing from Japan, Canada and the US. When you hear album title track, “Sun and Earth” off Sun and Earth (an album which will see a September 24th release), you’ll hear some psychedelic dub which employed the use of analog synthesizers, tape delay, and a slick horn line. Vibe out, and let the track take you to another plane of consciousness.
