If you’ve been following JOVM for the past few months, you may have come across a couple of posts on the Irish-born and London-based sisters Hannah and Colette Thurlow, who perform as the electro pop duo 2:54. Their 2012 debut effort won international attention and as a result they toured with indie and blogosphere darlings the xx, Wild Beasts and Warpaint. And in many ways, their sophomore effort, released at the end of last year, may make the London-based Thurlow sisters international stars. 

Whereas “Orion,” the album’s first single was a gorgeously lush pop song that bore an uncanny resemblance to Bjork and Kate Bush thanks in part to the fact that the song possessed a haunting, spectral quality – and in some way evoked traveling in wide open spaces, under enormous skies. The album’s second single, "In The Mirror” possessed a moody, atmospheric quality that may remind some of Turn On The Bright Lights-era Interpol and Unforgettable Fire-era U2; however, it did so with a slow-burning sensuality at its very core. 

The album’s latest single “Crest” manages to possess an element of the atmospheric pop with soaring harmonies that the Thurlow sisters have been known for but paired with angular guitar chords and punchy drums that give the song a decidedly punk air – albeit an art school punk feel.      The song is arguably the most angst-ridden and arena rock anthemic song to be released off the album to date.

The official video shot in a gorgeously cinematic and artsy black and white, features the Thurlow sisters and their backing band performing the song. But more importantly 2:54 will be embarking on a Stateside tour that will include a February 27 stop at Rough Trade in Williamsburg.
