I’ve been a fan of the legendary Neil Young for years, and today Young will playing the first of two NYC-area dates at the Garden tonight, with another legend, Patti Smith. Young has always been proudly individualistic, often doing things upon his terms – and only his terms. Balancing sheer, brutal power with delicate, gentle beauty, Young’s influence has reverberated through modern music over the past 40 years.
If you know anything about music, you know that his Harvest album is a beloved, classic album. It’s also one of my favorite albums … In honor of Young’s Madison Square Garden show tonight, check out this live performance of “Old Man,” which dates to 1971. In the slightly longer cut of this video – strangely, the video screen is extremely small – Young talks about the material being new material because it had either just been released or hadn’t been officially released yet.
