Jeymes Samuel writes and performs under the moniker the Bullitts. His debut effort, They Die By Dawn and Other Stories is a multimedia experience — yes, he has collaborated musically with the likes of Jay-ZJay Electronica, Mos Def (a.k.a. Yasiin Bey). “They Die By Dawn,” featuring some great verses by Jay Electronica and Mos Def, has the dusty, sweeping cinematic sound of the spaghetti Westerns of Morricone with the gritty feel of hip hop that’ll set the streets on fire. It also sounds quite a bit like it could have been on the soundtrack of Tarantino’s Django Unchained

It’s sadly, the type of hip hop that your conglomerate radio station —  yes, you folks at Hot 97 and Power 105.1 — would never play because it sounds unlike anything else out there right now. Each of the Bullitts singles have been accompanied by a short film based around the music, and in each short film, Samuel collaborates with the likes of Lucy Liu, Rosario Dawson and others. Check out the official video, it matches the sweeping, cinematic feel of the track. (If only someone were to make this a movie because it looks like it’d be fucking awesome and would be a perfect Quentin Tarantino film.)
