Live Concert Photography: Rebelmatic
Leftfield
March 18, 2016
Since their formation in 2008, New York-based hardcore punk quartet Rebelmatic, comprised of Creature (vocals), Alkatraz (guitar), Karnage (bass), and Ray Reed (drums), have developed both a local and national profile for a sound that draws from hip-hop, punk rock and rock while being firmly rooted in New York’s long-held hardcore tradition. In fact, the band’s self-produced and self-released albums have received attention from the likes of Frank 151, Cool ‘Eh, Global Grind and Afropunk, and as a result, the band has played at Afropunk Festival and have toured with Fishbone‘s Angelo Moore, among others. Adding to the band’s growing profile, the band’s individual members have collaborated with a number of artists — Alkatraz has worked with Slaughterhouse‘s Joell Ortiz, Creature has worked with The Slits‘ Ari Up and Mike Patton, while Karnage is also a member of local act BR and Timebomb.
Now, it’s been a little over three years since I’ve last caught the New York-based punk quartet but they played a sweaty and intense set at Leftfield on Friday night. Check out some photos from the show below.
