Meeting while attending art school in upstate New York, the members of These Animals began writing songs together in early 2010, and in the past three years, the band has released two EPs Extended Play and Souvenir Sessions both of which have had a combined 270,000 downloads. And thanks to some extensive touring, the band has built up a grassroots following (the key to success for just about any act these days).
Over the winter of 2012, the band holed up in a small cabin in Western New York and began recording songs that the band had been working on over the past two years. Taking their time to perfect their sound, the end result was their debut effort, Pages. “Hunting Horn” is the latest single off the band’s debut effort, and sonically the track reminds me quite a bit of Glasgow, Scotland’s Remember Remember – much like the Scottish band, “Hunting Horn” unfurls with a delicate, almost unhurried beauty.
The band will be at Mercury Lounge on December 6th as part of their annual “birthday show” – as it turns out each member shares the same birthday.
